After the success of the autumn Komeda tour, Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet starts its next edition.
Krzysztof Komeda’s music has inspired many generations of musicians not only in Poland but also abroad. This was also the case for Wojtek Mazolewski and the members of his quintet: Joanna Duda, Marek Pospieszalski, Oskar Torok, and Qba Janicki.
Last year, WMQ played a concert in London as a part of the prestigious “Church of Sound” series. Wojtek Mazolewski’s band presented to the London audience a special project “Polish Jazz” devoted to the legends of Polish jazz, including the music of Komeda.
The new concert program of the quintet with Krzysztof Komeda’s music has been created over the last two years – says Wojtek Mazolewski, – in our arrangements we show not only the potential of Komeda’s compositions, but also add our own modern quintet-based interpretation.
The world edition of the “Polka” album by Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet has been recognized by the American DownBeat Magazine as one of the five best jazz albums released this year. This is the first such distinction awarded to the Polish album in the history of the oldest and most prestigious jazz magazine in the world that has been published since 1932.
The “Polka Worldwide Deluxe Edition” album has also been mentioned by other media outlets around the world. The album was reviewed by, for instance, The Wire or the prestigious German JazzThing.
The album was also recognized by the legend of BBC Radio 6 Music, Gilles Peterson, who discussed it in one of the broadcasts.
Energetic concerts have become a trademark of Mazolewski’s music. He never fails to combine tradition with modernity. This makes his performances worth witnessing first hand.
